Careers Day at Firwood

On Friday 14th July we had our first Careers Day! We were fortunate to welcome a variety of employers, including: Greater Manchester Fire Service, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, Carrs Pasties, North West Warrior Martial Arts, Crystal Henge, Hollyoaks, Warburtons, Bolton College, Expanse Learning, Pets at Home, and The Octagon.

They spoke to our students about volunteering, employment and further education opportunities. This experience was invaluable and our learners took away key experiences, information and knowledge to inform their future choices.

Carrs Pasties discussed roles available in the production of their products. Arguably, the best pasties in the land. Our students were engaged and many loved the sensory aspect of pasty production.

North West Warrior Martial Arts practiced self-defence supporting many students to ensure that everyone could access martial arts. Amazing!

Laura Halligan, a Script Editor from Hollyoaks, discussed the different careers available at Hollyoaks including the Props Department. Students had the opportunity to explore different props and practise their acting skills in front of Laura. Firwood certainly has some future stars in the making!

Warburtons talked about routes to employment and apprenticeships. It won’t be long until our students are running the show!

Bolton college and Expanse Learning discussed the various courses which they offer and some of the exciting opportunities that some of our students will access in the future.

There were so many amazing activities taking place and we can't thank everyone that volunteered to come in and interact with our students. The experience was invaluable and we are excited for our next careers day!

There are so many amazing moments on the day and we would like to share a few snap shots with you below. Enjoy :)

If you are part of an organisation and would like to partner with Firwood in the future please get in touch with school or email our school’s preparation for adulthood lead directly. Details below:
